Firefighters rescue 2 from blaze amid active gunman report
A resident reported hearing pops when the fire started
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Firefighters and police rescued a man and woman from their burning apartments amid reports of an active shooter.
Firefighters and officers along with the National Guard responded to the scene after they received reports of gunshots, according to NBC Connecticut.
Crews rescued a woman from her third-floor apartment.
Another man was rescued from the second-floor after he suffered second-degree burns. He is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
Officials say that after investigating, it appears there was no gun at the scene. A resident who called in earlier said he heard several pops when the fire started, but officials have not been able to corroborate that.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
