NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — A resident who lived in an apartment building that caught fire shot at firefighters after he mistook them for burglars.

Local 10 reported that firefighters were knocking on residents’ doors in the apartment building to make sure everyone had evacuated due to a dryer fire. A handicapped man in a wheelchair thought crews were breaking in and fired three shots through the door, according to his caregiver.

"We knocked, identified ourselves and, even if there's no answer, we forced the doors, causing some damage to the doors, just to make sure that there was nobody inside of the structures," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said.

No one was injured in the incident, and the man will most likely not be charged.
