LOS ANGELES — A former MLB pitcher who played in the World Series is now a firefighter on the front lines of the California wildfires.

Yahoo Sports reported that former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Anthony Reyes followed in his father’s footsteps to become a firefighter after his baseball career ended, working for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Reyes is now on the front lines of the wildfires, according to a tweet from Cardinals Magazine.

“Please keep former #STLCards starter Anthony Reyes in your thoughts as he is on the front lines fighting the California wildfires. Was expecting 70 mph gusts on his shift tonight,” the tweet read.

Reyes was a Cardinals player for three years before pitching for the Cleveland Indians, and he helped bring the Cardinals to victory in the 2006 World Series.
