NEWARK, Ohio — Mary Ann Township Fire Department Chief Randy Miner died after a weekslong battle with COVID-19.

Miner contracted the virus on Sept. 12, according to the U.S. Fire Administration fatality notice, and died on Sept. 26.

“It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of our Fire Chief Randy Miner after a battle with COVID-19 that is believed to have been contracted on duty,” a statement by the department read. “Randy will be remembered for his quiet but caring demeanor around the firehouse. He was always willing to help anyone in any way he could.”
