Dog given to FDNY firefighters after 9/11 dies

Firehouse dog “Twenty” was donated to the department as a puppy; she was remembered for her loyal companionship

NEW YORK — A Dalmatian that became the mascot of a Manhattan FDNY firehouse after the 9/11 attacks died on Tuesday.

NY Post reported that the dog, named Twenty, was donated 15 years ago as a puppy to Ladder 20 that lost seven members in the World Trade Center attacks.

“Her name was Twenty and she became our mascot and companion,” FDNY Lt. Gary Lorio wrote on Facebook. “She really helped to build the morale in the years following 9/11. I can’t say enough about what she did to help us.”

They thanked the dog for her loyal companionship spanning nearly 15 years.
