SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Wooden construction scaffolding collapsed at the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in San Diego Wednesday, injuring 11 people, authorities said.

The 50-by-50 platform fell into the northbound traffic lane at the San Ysidro Port of Entry about 10:45 a.m., WEtv.com, San Diego, reported.

Four of the victims were construction workers, including one who was in serious condition.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said debris fell on 15 vehicles and the incident stopped all traffic across the border.

Mayor Jerry Sanders’ office said the closure could last up to 12 hours.

The border port is undergoing a major renovation and upgrade project, the TV station said.
