YONKERS, N.Y. — Investigators were trying to determine what caused an early morning fire yesterday that swept through a three-story, Queen Anne-style house, injuring 15 firefighters as they battled the blaze in frigid conditions.
The fire, which is believed to have started near the recently repaired boiler, burned from the basement up through the roof of the 30 Midland Ave. house, firefighters aid. Part of a top floor collapsed.
Anna Maj, 33, the owner of the house, was in Bridgeport, Conn., when the fire broke out. Neighbors saw smoke coming from the house — located across the road from Tibbetts Brook Park and the aqueduct — around 6 a.m. and called the Fire Department.
