MIAMI LAKES, Fla. — A Labrador retriever named K-9 Sierra helped authorities determine that a fire this morning at the law office of the Miami Lakes mayor was intentionally set, authorities said.

Firefighters were called to Mayor Michael Pizzi’s office, 15271 Northwest 60th Ave., about 12:45 a.m. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the two-story building.

No one was inside, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Arnold Piedrahita Jr. said.

The front door had been forced open, The Miami Herald reports.

Sierra is trained in detecting accelerants. The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating.

The blaze caused about $100,000 worth of damage.
