Gwinnett fire officials are searching for an arsonist who started a fire that tore through a Norcross-area apartment and displaced seven families.
The blaze at Adelaide Park Apartments, 808 Wynhollow Trace, was reported at 8 a.m. Monday, said Gwinnett Fire Lt. Thomas Rutledge. The fire started in a vacant first-floor apartment and spread through the two-story building, Rutledge said. No one was injured.
Rutledge said it would hinder the investigation to release what started the fire and why officials have called it an arson. Management of the apartment complex was able to provide other apartments in the complex for displaced families, Rutledge said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Arson & Explosives Section of the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
An organization called Georgia Arson Control Program Inc. offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of people responsible for arson, Rutledge said.
