Fire ripped through an Aurora apartment complex Wednesday, forcing some residents to escape by jumping out of windows, a fire department spokesman said.
The fire started just before noon on the 1600 block of Galena Street and was contained by 12:19 p.m., said Mike Ackman, an Aurora Fire spokesman.
Some residents were jumping out of the windows, Ackman said, including a pregnant woman who jumped about six feet from the second floor of the three-story apartment.
One resident was taken to University Hospital with a cut on his arm.
One unit was badly damaged, but people from 18 other units were evacuated as a precaution.
The Red Cross set up a shelter for the displaced residents at the Aurora Public Schools administrative building. As of 8 p.m., there were six residents at the shelter.
