LYNN, Mass. — A Lynn firefighter was injured late Tuesday when he apparently fell at least 10 feet off a loft in a burning building.

Lynn Fire Chief Edward Higgins said the firefighter, whose name was not released, suffered several unspecified fractures but was scheduled to be discharged from a local hospital yesterday. The fire began about 10:40 p.m. in an apartment above a business on Summer Street. Blinded by smoke, the firefighter apparently stepped off a ledge in the apartment and plunged to the lower story, Higgins said. The cause of the fire and the specific cause of the injury are under investigation.
