BUFFALO, N.Y. — A man was found living in a 16-by-20-foot underground bunker that he said took him two years to dig.
The bunker was discovered over the weekend by firefighter James O’Neill as he investigated a fire. He would not reveal the man’s name or location.
The fire investigator said the man, a 47-year-old military veteran, uses car batteries to light his home and has lived there for six years.
“Some people would call him homeless, but he’s a clean, well-spoken guy. When I spoke to him, he was reading a novel by Joseph Wambaugh,” said O’Neill, who said the man earns money doing occasional odd jobs.
