Cabs allowed to park at fire hydrants in Canada city

Cabbies will be required to stay in or adjacent to their vehicles

CALGARY — It’s becoming a persistent problem in the downtown: cabbies complaining they have nowhere to wait for fares, with too few taxi spaces available.

At the same time, some businesses are accusing drivers of plunking themselves in much-valued, short-term parking, denying the spots to shoppers.

But come next month, the taxi stand crunch could well be solved as triple the number of stalls will be created when the city allows cabs to park next to fire hydrants.
