CAMANCHE, Iowa — The American flag in front of the Camanche Fire Station was lowered to half staff this week in honor of Fire Chief Aubrey Wilson, who passed away Friday at his home and was buried in a service that featured firefighter rites and the attendance of firefighters from throughout the region Wednesday.

Wilson was a member of the Camanche Fire Department for 31 years and served as chief for the past three years.

“I considered him a good friend,” said Camanche Mayor Jim Robertson. “Aubrey was thought of as a caring and well-respected man by everybody that knew him, not only by his volunteers and the people that worked with Aubrey. Everyone liked and respected Aubrey as a person and a friend.” Robertson and the Camanche City Council began Tuesday night’s meeting with a moment of silence to honor Wilson.
