Tom Upton, 54, was in Comox for a two-day B.C. Firefighter practical training and evaluation session when he collapsed.
Paramedics taking part in the training failed to revive Upton with oxygen and CPR. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox where he was pronounced dead.
Gabriola Fire Chief Rick Jackson said Upton was one of two Gabriola firefighters taking part in the training and was a team leader in the exercise.
