A Chattanooga firefighter was suspended for 28 days without pay after being charged with insubordination, a Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman said Thursday.

Capt. Tara Weaver, a supervisor at Fire Station No. 20 in Lookout Valley, will begin her suspension Sunday, Bruce Garner said.

Capt. Weaver is scheduled to appeal the punishment at a City Council panel hearing April 24 at 10 a.m., Mr. Garner said.

Capt. Jeff Eldridge, president of Chattanooga Firefighters Local 820, said he believes the incident probably resulted from a miscommunication.

He said the incident in question did not affect public safety.

Fire Chief Wendell Rowe declined to comment on the matter Thursday.

Mr. Garner said he was not provided with the supporting documentation that shows the incident from which the insubordination charge stems.
