DALLAS — Black smoke billowed into the air south of downtown Dallas on Monday afternoon as firefighters fought a five-alarm fire at a warehouse, fire officials said.
The fire at 300 Cadiz St. started at 1:30 p.m. while a construction crew was demolishing the building, formerly the home of Alford Refrigerated Warehouses, said Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Paul Lara.
“There’s an unconfirmed report that there was metal being worked on and some sparks fell to the ground ... and caught on fire,” said Lara, who added that firefighters have not ruled out any cause.
The workers and two homeless people who were inside the building got out safely, he said. No injuries have been reported.
The Amtrak line near the warehouse was stopped for about two hours because of the fire; service resumed about 3:40 p.m.
