DENVER — A noose left in plain sight at a fire academy in Denver has offended some firefighters and prompted an investigation.
Investigators say the noose was placed by a Denver firefighter at the Rocky Mountain Fire Academy, according to KDVR.
Officials are still deciding what punishment should be administered over the incident.
“We’re icons in the public, as far as heroes. We need to present ourselves as heroes at all times and we’re not going to tolerate that type of behavior.” Denver’s new Manager of Safety, Ron Perea said.
Both Denver and Aurora fire departments train at the facility and will meet to discuss how to improve sensitivity training.
The firefighter involved said he placed the noose as a joke in protest of regularly scheduled training.
