ALBANY, N.Y. — City firefighters faced an unexpected obstacle before extinguishing a Center Street blaze Monday — three pit bull terriers at the front door.
An animal control officer was called to make sure the dogs were not a danger after emergency crews arrived on the scene of 25 Center Street at about 9:45 a.m. Fire crews then put out the blaze.
Fire damaged the upstairs, while water damage was significant in the entire one-family home, said Battalion Chief Bill Moore. The fire started in a mattress in the upstairs bedroom, but the exact cause is still unknown, he said.
No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported. After the blaze was extinguished, the three dogs were sitting in an empty lot near the home, drinking from plastic water dishes.
