Fire damages warehouse at Ky. bluegrass station

LEXINGTON, Ky.- A state warehouse storage facility in the Avon community near Lexington has been heavily damaged by fire.

The facility, run by the Kentucky Department of Military Affairs and known as the Bluegrass Station at Avon, is rented to various businesses.

The building had five separate warehouse wings separated by thin walls. A guard spotted the fire at 2:28 a.m. and called firefighters.

Lexington Fire Chief Bob Hendricks said about 60 firefighters fought the two-alarm blaze, but there were also firefighters there from Winchester and other departments.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The contents of the building are not yet known. There were no injuries.
