ANGIER, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter died Wednesday after responding to a house fire the previous day.
Ottis Earl Stephenson, 61, was a member of Angier and Black River Fire Department, Harnett County Fire District 9, for 21 years. His death is believed to be medical related.
He died while at work as a security officer at a museum in Raleigh.
Angier and Black River Fire Department Chief Frankie Hobson said the house fire was contained by the time crews arrived, and firefighters had to ventilate the property.
He said Stephenson was a “happy, uplifting person.”
