A Saturday afternoon fire destroyed in a two-story frame house in Claridge.
The unidentified occupant was not at home at the time of the 1:30 p.m. blaze.
It took more than three hours to extinguish the flames that engulfed the first and second floors of the house at 2016 Main St., said Robert Bankosh, second assistant fire chief of the Claridge Volunteer Fire Department. Neighboring buildings were not damaged, he said.
A number of firefighters were overcome with heat exhaustion, Bankosh said, adding that they were treated at the scene and released from duty.
About 50 emergency personnel from six communities responded.
“It was awfully hot out there today,” Bankosh said.
The state police fire marshal is investigating the cause, Bankosh said.
The house “was totaled,” he said. “It was a complete loss.”
