Fla. firefighter accused of assault suspended

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — A city firefighter accused of biting a police officer has been suspended from his job just weeks before he is to retire, city officials said Thursday.

Wayne F. Lis, 51, of West Circular Street Extension, was suspended as of Jan. 14, Deputy Public Safety Commissioner Frank Dudla said.

Lis has pleaded not guilty to assaulting Officer Sean O’Leary Jan. 7 on Church Street, according to City Court records. Lis is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and second-degree harassment. If convicted of the felony assault charge, he faces up to seven years in prison.
