HONOLULU — A former Honolulu firefighter has admitted smoking crystal methamphetamine before setting three fires this past summer.
Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, Kenton Leong pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree arson. The agreement calls for a 10-year prison sentence.
In exchange for his guilty pleas, prosecutors reduced the charges initially filed against the 42-year-old Leong.
He set the fires in Makapuu on July 17, five months after being fired for drug use. Leong had been a firefighter for 17 years.
Officials say the fires burned more than nine acres of property, and threatened the lives of two campers and a fisherman.
