HAMBURG — A German hospital caught fire twice in the same night Tuesday, killing one person, and police in the northern port city of Hamburg said they suspected arson.
The first fire started in a bed at Wandsbek General Hospital during the night and filled a ward with toxic fumes that harmed 16 other patients. They were moved to other wards or other hospitals. All other patients in the building were evacuated as a precaution.
Fire crews said they did not know how the second fire, just after sunrise, had started.
