The Lawrence Fire Department Monday suspended a veteran firefighter who is being investigated for allegations of child molestation.
Firefighter Michael Kopp, who joined the department in 1995, has not been charged with any crime and is not in custody, but he has hired an attorney, said Marion County Sheriff’s Capt. Phil Burton.
The Sheriff’s Department and Lawrence police are investigating claims by Kopp’s 21-year-old stepdaughter that he molested her from seventh grade through her high school years, according to a Marion County sheriff’s report.
