Chief Jonathan Siemers was on call for the 24 hours preceding his death, which has been ruled in the line of duty

CLAY CENTER, Kan. — Clay Center Fire Chief Jonathan Siemers, 44, died this weekend in the line of duty.

Mayor Sharon Brown and City Administrator Cheryl Beatty said that Siemers was on call for the 24 hours preceding his death answering an alarm call at McKinley Apartments. For that reason the Kansas State Firefighter Association ruled Sunday evening that he died in the line of duty.

Brown appointed assistant fire chief Dallas Cunningham to serve as interim fire chief this morning. As of now, it is unclear whether the city will hire two people to fill the two positions that Siemers held.
