JACKSON, Miss. — Law enforcement officers and firefighters recovering from Hurricane Katrina have received over $400,000 in donations.
The donations were raised during the two-hour “Back up the Badge” telethon broadcast by Mississippi Public Broadcasting television and radio this past October.
Within hours after Hurricane Katrina struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast on Aug. 29, law enforcement officers and firefighters were responding to rescue people and secure areas devastated by the powerful storm.
