Three firefighters were injured Thursday night fighting a house fire in northeast Lincoln.

Two of the firefighters were taken to St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for minor burns and released. The other was treated at the scene, said Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Sellon.

The fire started in the back of a house at 7943 Garland St. and caught the house just to the west of it on fire. The first house was destroyed by the fire, with the loss estimated at $300,000. Sellon estimated the damage to the second house, 7935 Garland St., at $75,000. Firefighters were called to the scene just before 6 p.m. and had both fires under control several hours later.

The fire is under investigation. Firefighters were concerned that strong wind gusts might spread the fire further and were checking the area for burning roof tiles. Sellon said firefighters would remain at the scene all night.
