SPRINGFIELD, Maine — A volunteer firefighter was killed Monday when the fire truck he was driving overturned in Penobscot County.
State police say the crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. as the Springfield Fire Department tanker truck was en route to a fire call in the nearby town of Prentice.
The truck whose only occupant was the driver overturned while rounding a curve on Route 169, troopers said. The firefighter, who died at the scene, was not immediately released.
