ORLEANS, Mass. — A Provincetown volunteer firefighter is facing a drunken driving charge in a crash that wrecked the town’s ladder truck in November.
The Cape Cod Times reports that Orleans District Court clerk magistrate Stephen Ross decided on Tuesday to issue criminal complaints against 21-year-old Elias Martinez in connection with the Nov. 9 crash. The charges also include driving dangerously, speeding and failing to slow at an intersection.
Police have alleged that Martinez was under the influence of alcohol and was speeding when the fire truck’s front wheel struck a curb and flipped over. He and a female passenger were treated for minor injuries.
Martinez and his attorney declined comment Tuesday.
A prosecutor said Martinez likely would be arraigned within a month.
