NEWTON, Mass. — A Newton firefighter is hospitalized Tuesday morning after a fire truck rolled over him late Monday night.
Lieutenant Richard Geary of Franklin was injured when the truck slipped out of gear. Crews were putting out a dumpster fire on the Boston College campus at the time.
The Newton Fire Department says the 19-year veteran suffered broken legs, a broken arm, a broken shoulder, burns to both legs and scalp wounds.
Several other firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to Boston area hospitals.
A Beth Israel Hospital spokesman did not immediately have an update on Geary’s condition.
Newton Fire Lieutenant Alan Leone says authorities are examining the fire truck for mechanical problems.
