PEABODY, Mass. — Firefighters battled a massive fire at a condominium complex in Peabody Thursday.
Flames consumed the roof of the building and the thick black smoke that poured from the fire could be seen from Boston, about 12 miles south.
No injuries are reported.
The building is part of the larger complex known as Highlands at Dearborn, which is located near the heavily-traveled junction of Route 1 and Route 128.
Sean Fitzgerald, chief of staff to Peabody Mayor Michael Bonfanti, said there were 23 units in the building that caught fire. He said two other buildings in the complex were also evacuated by firefighters as a precaution.
Fitzgerald said the city is making plans to provide temporary shelter to displaced residents, and the local Red Cross is providing assistance.
