The city of Rock Hill announced Tuesday that it had settled the lawsuit filed against it by former city firefighter Matt Cooper for $5,000.

The city said in a statement that both sides agreed the settlement did not include any admission of wrongdoing by the city. City manager Carey Smith said the settlement would save the city the cost of further litigation.

Cooper was fired in July for having violated the city’s policy on nepotism when he married Brooke Lowery, daughter of fire captain Herbie Lower. Cooper had sued, contesting the policy. In September, he took a job as a firefighter in his hometown, Findlay, Ohio.
