Bennington Fire Chief Larry Arp was injured early Monday as he fought a fire at 10507 Nebraska Ave.

Arp was among the firefighters from the Irvington and Bennington Volunteer Fire Departments who responded to the call about 4:20 a.m.

All four occupants of the house escaped unharmed, but Arp hurt his back when he fell through some stairs.

He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center, where X-rays and a CAT scan revealed no breaks.

“They said I’d be sore a few days,” Arp said. “Nothing’s broken, and I’m just moving a little slow.”

Kyle Tonnies, Irvington’s assistant chief, said it took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. He said the house was destroyed.

The home’s assessed valuation was $132,500, according to the Douglas County Assessor’s Office Web site.
