WEST MILFORD, N.J. — A longtime volunteer firefighter who collapsed while battling a house fire in West Milford has died.
Raymond Barrett, 62, was among a group of firefighters who responded to the Navajo Trail home shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Barrett, who had been a volunteer firefighter for many decades, was inside the home when he collapsed. His colleagues performed CPR as he was taken to Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, but Barrett was pronounced dead there shortly after 5 p.m.
The cause of death remained undetermined Sunday night, authorities said.
No one else was injured in the blaze.
