CENTEREACH, N.Y. — A Centereach Fire Department assistant chief was injured in a motor vehicle accident while responding to an emergency - an earlier, serious car accident, a department official said.

Assistant Chief Garrett Schor’s department vehicle collided with another vehicle Tuesday night at the intersection of Middle Country Road and Eastwood Boulevard, said Julia Wilson, the secretary and spokeswoman for the fire district.

Schor was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was treated for several hours and released, Wilson said. She said she did not have details on his injuries.

Schor was responding to an emergency call at 11:38 p.m. Tuesday reporting a serious accident at the corner of Hawkins and Nicolls roads, Wilson said.

Suffolk police last night said the vehicle’s emergency lights were activated at the time. Schor’s accident was about two miles from the scene of the original accident.

Requests for information from the Centereach Fire Department were referred to Wilson, who said she did not know what kind of vehicle Schor was driving or whether the other driver in Schor’s accident was injured.

No one answered the door at the Centereach residence that records indicate is owned by Schor.
