Kerhonkson, NY– About 50 guests and employees were evacuated after a fire started at an Ulster County resort yesterday afternoon.

Almost 140 guest reservation and two weekend events at the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa in Kerhonkson were moved to nearby facilities.

A fire official says the electrical fire was reported shortly before 2 o’clock and apparently started in the kitchen roof.

Jay Davis, director of resort operations, says guests were sent to the nearby resorts in Kerhonkson, Ellenville, and Kingston.

Two catered events planned for the weekend – a wedding and a high school reunion – were moved to a hotel in Rosendale.

Davis tells the Kingston Freeman he believed the damage to the building can be repaired but the 275-room resort might remain closed this weekend.
