An off-duty Coral Springs firefighter was shot in the stomach Sunday night after an argument over a go-kart in Hollywood, police said.
The 42-year-old firefighter, Robert Wood, was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital. He remains in the intensive care unit.
The incident started when Wood and Ronald Khan began arguing over a go-kart Khan was riding at 9:15 p.m. near Wood’s home in the 500 block of North 60th Way, Sgt. Manny Marino said.
After the argument, Khan rode off in the go-kart, police said.
Minutes later, he returned — with a gun.
Khan, 35, shot Wood once in the stomach, Marino said. He then took off in a nearby car.
Detectives spent hours interviewing witnesses, who led them to Khan. He was arrested at 1 a.m. Police recovered the gun he used in the shooting.
Khan has been charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
