CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago firefighter who allegedly punched a Chicago Police officer after Sunday’s Bears game was ordered held on $65,000 bond Monday.
Scott Holland, who appeared briefly before Cook County Judge Jackie Portman at the 26th and California courthouse, is charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred about 7:15 p.m. on a footbridge near Soldier Field, police said. At the time, two police officers on bicycles were trying to pass Holland on the footbridge, police said.
At some point, Holland, 42, allegedly shoved one of the policemen into a fence and then punched him in the jaw, according to the arrest report. As Holland was about to throw another punch, the injured officer’s partner stepped in and restrained Holland, the arrest report states.
The officer who was struck was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.
Holland’s attorney, Mike Gillespie, said Monday that his client had just come from the Bears game when the incident occurred. Gillespie denied his client punched the officer.
“That overstates what happened here,” Gillespie said, adding, “Our position is that Scott didn’t do anything wrong, and we look forward to getting into court and proving that.”
Larry Langford, a spokesman for the fire department, said the department’s internal affairs division is looking into the incident.
