NEW YORK — An elderly West Islip resident was safely pulled from his burning home Thursday evening, thanks to the efforts of an off-duty volunteer firefighter, police said.
Lt. Al Cinotti, a member of the West Islip Volunteer Fire Department, was passing by 330 Higbie Lane when he noticed a fire in the house and called in an alarm on his portable radio, Suffolk police said.
Cinotti forced his way into the house through the front door and found 78-year-old Adrian Woodward in the smoke-filled living room. With the assistance of Jeff Kempf, Cinotti pulled Woodward to safety.
