KETTERING, Ohio — A firefighter adopted a dog after crews responded to a fire call at a pet adoption center.

WHIO reported that crews originally arrived for a suspected fire, but stayed to visit with animals after it was discovered there was no fire.

One of the firefighters, David, met a Bassett/Labrador blend named Joy, according to the report. David and his wife came back later to adopt Joy.

“The firefighter and his family received an unexpected Joy this holiday, and Joy has a hero as a new dad,” SICSA Pet Adoption officials said.
