FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Two Fort Wayne men are being credited with helping save a man whose car caught fire after crashing into a tree.
Authorities say volunteer firefighter Cal Thiele was driving by the crash Tuesday outside the home of Lance Taylor when both men went to help.
With the driver pinned inside, his foot pressing on the accelerator and the car beginning to smoke, the two broke out a car window and turned off the ignition. When the car started burning, the men threw snow on the flames to control them until firefighters arrived.
Fort Wayne fire Battalion Chief Tom Broxon says the driver of the car could have died or been badly burned if Taylor and Thiele hadn’t acted.
