PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Fire Department has suspended a firefighter who wrote a rap lyric about police officers, saying he would turn “pigs into bacon bits.”

Rodney Jean-Jacques, who uses the stage name Cal Akbar, is likely to be fired, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers announced Monday that Jean-Jacques had been suspended with intention to dismiss.

“Commissioner Ayers deeply regrets that anyone was offended by the lyrics, especially our important first responder partners, members of the Philadelphia Police Department,” the department said in a statement.

In 2005, a Jean-Jacques song, “Take It Outside,” was played during halftime at a Philadelphia Eagles-Dallas Cowboy game and incorporated into a national campaign for fire safety.

His more recent effort became public after it was published on a police Internet bulletin board. The police department immediately demanded Jean-Jacques be fired and his own union refused to back him.

“I got a surprise for them cops,” Jean-Jacques said in the controversial lyric with the sound of gunshots in the background. “I hope the news is taping this, ‘cause I’m gonna turn those pigs into bacon bits.”
