PITTSBURGH — A woman was killed and a volunteer firefighter injured in a four-alarm fire Friday that destroyed one Pitcairn apartment house and damaged another.
Three people were left homeless in the fire that erupted around 2 p.m. in the rear of 375 Third St. and quickly spread to a front building, said Dan Dick, assistant fire chief for Pitcairn Hose Company No. 1.
There have been at least five suspicious fires in the community in the past six weeks, but there were no immediate indications that yesterday’s fire was deliberately set, said Dick and police Chief Carlton Nagy.
