Six-alarm fire injures 20 firefighters in the Bronx

An early morning fire ripped through a seven-story apartment building in the Morrisania section of the Bronx today, forcing the evacuation of the structure by both occupants and fire fighters, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The blaze, first reported at 6:41 a.m., went to a six-alarm status at 8:42, said a Fire Department spokesman, Brian Mullin. One resident was reported slightly injured due to smoke inhalation and 20 firemen were said to have minor injuries.

The fire was declared under control by mid-morning, fire officials said.
