Thomas “Emmett” Kuehl, 38, was flown to Sioux Valley Hospital in South Dakota Tuesday, where he died due to his head injuries he sustained while responding to a fire.

Kuehl and the Elkton Volunteer Fire Company were responding to a brush fire about 10 miles north of Elkton when the truck he was driving got stuck in soft ground. A tractor was trying to pull the vehicle out when the tow cable snapped. The cable went through the windshield and struck Kuehl.
