In September 2006, the Constitution, Bylaws, and Resolutions (CBR) Committee met at Fire-Rescue International in Dallas. At this meeting, the CBR Committee discussed clarifying an issue on the make-up of the IAFC’s two permanent committees, CBR Committee and Elections Committee.
This issue concerned whether it was the original intent of the constitution and bylaws to have representatives on the permanent committees who reside in the respective divisions or whether the division can appoint whomever they wish.
CBR Committee members agreed that the original intent was that there should be geographic representation on the permanent committees and the language should be changed from “consist of one representative of each division” to “consist of one representative from each division.”
The CBR Committee took action and presented the IAFC board of directors with a technical amendment to the IAFC bylaws, which made this language change. At the IAFC board of directors’ meeting in October, the board agreed and passed a motion that the technical amendment to the IAFC bylaws language should be changed to “consist of one representative of from each division.”
With the passage of this technical amendment to the IAFC bylaws, the make-up of the two permanent committees will consist of one representative from each division.
If you don’t agree with this technical amendment, there are provisions in the constitution to submit a change for consideration. The deadline for a change to be considered in 2007 is February 1, 2007.
