Volunteer firefighters a scarce resource

The Associated Preess

YORK, Neb. - Demands on volunteer firefighters are growing faster than the numbers of those willing to serve, leaving fire departments stretched thin.

“I can’t really tell you if our actual numbers have dropped dramatically from year to year,” said Kevin Stuhr, York fire chief. “But I can tell you that we need more people available for emergencies.”
