Wash. assistant chief pleads guilty to fraud

TACOMA, Wash. — An assistant chief for South King Fire and Rescue who took more than half a million dollars from the department pleaded guilty to mail fraud in federal court in Seattle.

The 51-year-old man, Grant G. Gaspard, faces about three years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 30.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports he used phony invoices to buy photo gear, computers and a high-def TV for himself.
